Okay, so it doesn’t sound like this is gonna be legit canon however it does sound like they will be doing a The Owl House and Amphibia crossover eventually based on what the Disney TV Animation Exec said near the end of the panel. Do witchcraft.” amity blight luz noceda willow park odalia blight alador blight lumity lgbt+ lgbt+ representation dana terrace rebecca rose spoilers the owl house spoilers the owl house This is my overall take though and I hope you enjoy and as Dana ended with, “Be gay. So it is nice that, that definitely won’t happen. For me, seeing Amity being disowned for being a lesbian would have been quite triggering for me. I think that balance is gonna be struck well. From what Dana has said in this interview and from what we have seen in the show so far. She may still get disowned, she may still turn to her chosen family but it won’t be for being a lesbian, but that parallel to the lived LGBT+ experiences of those who have been rejected by their family will be there.Īnd I think that is key, it is finding a balance. This also means there will be no heart wrenching storyline where Amity is going to be disowned by her parents for being a lesbian.Īt the same time though, Dana did express the importance of showing things that did parallel to the negative experiences LGBT+ people face in really life such as oppressive and conservative home environments, which even if not on the basis of her sexuality we very much see in Amity. They can see themselves represented in a positive light and most importantly as being just as normal as their straight peers. Which for LGBT+ young people growing up right now is great. No one bats an eyelid and these are 100% normalised. The fact that Willow has 2 dads, the fact that Amity is a lesbian, the fact that Luz is bi. But homophobia and transphobia are not existent in the Boiling Isles. Right now that focus is on the ship Lumity in The Owl House. I have covered in my earlier posts while watching the interview, but I think the point I need to highlight in terms of the primary focus of this blog which is and always has been LGBT+ representation in Disney. And I think I am gonna write another post tonight to really go into detail as to why I find Amity such a relatable character but right now, I am just gonna write the highlight of this interview for me. I mean my main focus in this has been on the LGBT+ side of things. Even though I started bang on 5pm (11am Central), I do a lot of stopping and starting when I am watching things for analysis, pretty understandably. So I just finished watching the interview.
