![]() Operation Wolf 3, then, is an alternate take on a digitised light gun shooter as presented to us by Taito and developed by East Technology. Under Fire is a fascinating game in its own right, with an early example of infrared or IR instead of optical sensors for its light gun technology and three-fire burst H&K MP5-inspired guns, but that'll be for another day. Their first attempt was with digitised models in 1992's Dino Rex, a terrible yet fascinating one-on-one fighter starring, well, dinosaurs, then later in 1992 with the four-player wrestling game Ring Rage (ported to the Game Boy of all things), culminating in 1994's Under Fire. Besides, as a Taito-published game it has a bit of a lineage behind it, even if they weren't directly developing it, as they didn't exactly jump on the digitised bandwagon for Operation Wolf 3- they'd been on it already. You wouldn't know it was them behind Wolf 3 until you beat the game, though. Some corners of the internet also state they worked on the original Operation Wolf, but I've found no staff listing or anything to prove a connection. Well, I mean yes, you're absolutely right, but there's a little more to it than that, honest!įor a start, this isn't strictly a Taito joint anyway- most of the legwork was done by East Technology, a company mostly known for getting contracted to make the arcade pay-to-win experience Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stones, but they also had a working relationship with Taito, developing games like Silent Dragon, Slap Shot and Last Striker. If you've seen screenshots of this game before, I know what you're thinking, you're thinking "Taito ripping off Lethal Enforcers". I dunno, maybe it's just our tired old eyes, but we just wanted to say, a warning about the emulation perhaps not being 100% video-wise here for our screenshots. Taito's weirder arcade hardware stuff in the '90s has a tendency to look odd in MAME, mostly to do with colours (see also: Chase Bombers). Lethal II is just as good as the original, and its new features will make it one of the hottest shooters of the year.Operation Wolf 3 - TWO HIGHLY TRAINED COMMANDOS WERE SENT ON A 'DO-OR-DIE' MISSION. And it's Magnum-style casing feels more realistic for a Western shooter. This premier light gun is more effective than it was in the first Lethal, especially when you're targeting moving objects. Every gamer who's ever used the Justifier is acquainted with its accuracy and quick trigger action. Each weapon has a distinct firing pattern that creates an intensely realistic shooting experience.Īlthough you can use a regular controller, you gotta go with the gun. The best features, though, are the shooting effects. New digitized voices and enemy sound effects will inspire you to heroic deeds. In the sound department, Lethal II is everything its predecessor was and more. Although the blood and gore were left out, the clear digitized sprites will have you ducking behind the couch, and the realistic BD-style back grounds give you more Western flavor than Tombstone. Much like the first game, Lethal II's graphics are hot. Take advantage of this option before you lose it. Other sharp pixels include daggers hurling into the screen and some cool bullet-holes when gunmen fill you full of lead. The train and the stagecoach shootouts, which are on the move, look particularly slick. The digitized bandits give you good-looking moving targets. The visuals are handsome, despite the grainy Sega CD look. The new firearms do a good job, but you lose 'em when you get drilled. ![]() If you get weary of your revolver, you can upgrade your firepower by shooting gun icons for double-barrel shotguns, Gatling guns, cannons, and, of course, a two-gun rig. The first- person shootout rages across five levels in the usual Western locales, including a bank, saloon, and stagecoach. They're a-ridin' hoses and a-holdin' hostages. The desperadoes jump from behind barrels and bushwhack you from windows. ![]() This game is tough on the trigger finger because the opposition comes gunnin' for you in an endless stream. ![]() The Justifier works great, and if point and shoot is your "idear" of a good time, LE ll's a gunslinger's dream. Naturally, GunFighters is all about gun control.uh, make that gun controller. GunFighters is a basic blast! You pack a blue Konami Justifier light gun on your own or form a posse with a pal, if they don't mind usin' the pink shootin' iron.
